Do You Need to Log In to Play Minecraft?
No. You can open Minecraft and play single-player worlds without signing in. Your worlds are saved on your phone, and you can build, explore and play Survival or Creative mode offline.
Signing in becomes necessary when you want to play with other people outside your Wi-Fi network. Online friends, Realms, featured servers and Marketplace purchases are all tied to your Microsoft account.
The sign-in happens inside the game. Minecraft opens a Microsoft page in your browser, and you return to the game once you are signed in.
- Open Minecraft: Launch the game from your home screen and wait for the main menu to load.
- Tap Sign In: Look for the Sign In button at the top or on the left side of the main menu.
- Choose Sign In for Free: Minecraft will show a code or open a browser page.
- Enter your Microsoft account: Type the email, phone number or Skype name linked to your account, then your password.
- Approve the request: If you use two-step verification, confirm the sign-in in the Microsoft Authenticator app or with the code sent to you.
- Return to the game: Switch back to Minecraft. Your gamertag will appear in the corner of the main menu.
If you do not have a Microsoft account yet, you can make one in a few minutes. You can do it from inside Minecraft or from a browser.
From Inside Minecraft
Tap Sign In, then choose the option to create a new account. Enter an email address, set a password and fill in your country and date of birth. Microsoft will send a code to your email to confirm the account.
From a Browser
Visit the Microsoft account sign-up page, create the account there, and then sign in to Minecraft with the same email and password. This is handy if typing on the phone keyboard inside the game feels slow.
Accounts for Children
If the player is under 13 (the age varies by country), Microsoft asks a parent to approve the account. Parents can then manage chat, multiplayer and purchases from the Microsoft Family settings.
Don't Have the Game Yet?
Download the latest Minecraft APK first, then come back here to sign in.
Download APK Back to HomeOnline Friends
Add friends by gamertag and join their worlds on phones, PCs and consoles.
Minecraft Realms
Join or create a private world that stays online even when you are not playing.
Marketplace
Buy skins, maps and texture packs, and keep them on any device you sign in to.
Achievements
Earn achievements in Survival worlds and see them on your Xbox profile.
Open Settings from the main menu, then tap Profile or Account. Choose Sign Out of Microsoft Account. Your local worlds stay on the phone after you sign out.
To use a different account, sign out first, then follow the login steps above with the other email address. This is useful when two people share one tablet and each wants their own gamertag.
Sign-In Page Does Not Open
Make sure a browser such as Chrome is installed and set as your default. Minecraft needs it to show the Microsoft sign-in page. Restart the game and try again.
"Unable to Connect to World" After Login
This usually means a version mismatch or a network block. Check that you and your friend use the same Minecraft version, then switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to test the connection.
Forgot Your Password
On the Microsoft sign-in page, tap Forgot password and follow the steps. Microsoft sends a reset code to your email or phone number. Once the password is changed, sign in to Minecraft again.
Gamertag Not Showing
Close the game fully from your recent apps and open it again. If the gamertag still does not appear, sign out and sign back in from Settings.
Account Locked or Blocked
Microsoft may lock an account after several wrong password attempts or unusual activity. Follow the unlock steps shown on the sign-in page. For a child account, a parent may need to allow online play in Family settings.
- Turn on two-step verification: It stops others from signing in even if they learn your password.
- Use a unique password: Do not reuse the password from your email or social media accounts.
- Ignore free Minecoins offers: Sites that ask for your login in exchange for free coins are trying to steal accounts.
- Sign out on shared devices: Log out when you play on a friend's phone or a school tablet.
Logging in to Minecraft takes only a Microsoft account and a minute of your time. You can skip it for offline play, but signing in opens up multiplayer, Realms and the Marketplace.
If you have not installed the game yet, start on the Download page. For gameplay tips and guides, visit the Home page.
